Albania is a very interesting country to consider from the point of view of its telecommunications industry. Till 1990 it was among the most isolated European states and its level of communications development till that time didn’t allow to make long distance calls even within the country without assistance of a specialist who switched the telephone lines manually. It was called Albanian Mobile Communications or just AMC. If had operated for 19 years till it was re-named to Telekom Albania after joining the Deutsche Telecom Group. However, even before its rebranding the company was developing quite successfully, it had more than 5.5 million subscribers with over 3.5 million active mobile users. By 2015, AMC Mobile had already deployed 3G network and become the second Albanian operator to offer 3G mobile internet. In 2015, the firm gained a license for providing 4G data exchange services. And in July of that year the way of the company took a new direction. Previously known as AMC it continued its functioning as Telekom Albania.
